Everything you need to know about Google Developer Groups on Campus at University of San Carlos
As per Google's updated branding guidelines, we have to follow: Moving forward, all Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) are now referred to as Google Developers On Campus (GDGoC).
GDGoC is a Google-initiated program, but we're not Google employees or directly under Google's management. We do receive resources, learning materials, and speaker support from Google.
We're not limited to purely academic or technical workshops. GDGoC is about community: building connections, exploring technology in fun and practical ways, and linking USC students to other GDGoC chapters in Cebu. That means more opportunities beyond the classroom.
Nope! Membership is free.
Nope. GDGoC USC is open to all students from any department. Tech is everywhere, and we welcome diverse perspectives!
Not at all! While coding knowledge can help you get more out of our activities, what matters most is curiosity and a love for technology. We'll make sure that, coder or not, you feel included and involved.
Yes! You don't necessarily have to be knowledgeable about tech to discuss it (We'll help you level up on that aspect!) As long as you respect the time, space, and context, you're welcome to initiate and join discussions, hangouts, and activities outside of tech.
Absolutely! We welcome students from any organization or department, as long as you're curious about tech and open to learning.
Some activities are open to everyone, but certain events are exclusive to registered members.
We ask members to join at least one event every two months. Activity isn't only about attendance, but long-term inactivity (ghosting) may result in removal from our Community GC.
We're still getting things ready! In the meantime, do join our Discord and start interacting with current and previous members. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have on there, and we'd be happy to help!
• Hands-on workshops
• Study groups and interest circles (e.g., Web Dev, AI/ML, Data Science)
• Tech discussions in casual spaces (even a Minecraft server!)
• Online tutorials
• Chill community hangouts
All of the above. Learning is our focus, but networking and projects naturally grow out of our community efforts.
Be present. Join workshops and community activities, share ideas, learn from others, and contribute to the conversations that keep our org alive. GDGoC USC isn't about high-stakes commitment; it's about being part of a community, so at the very least, go meet new people! We're simply providing the space and means to make that easier : )
No, but the more you participate, the more you'll get out of it. Some activities will be members-only.
Stick around! We have community spaces where announcements, discussions, and activities happen. Engagement is simple: watch for updates, join events, and connect with fellow members.
• A supportive tech community
• Connections with peers and industry professionals
• Learning resources and study groups
• Opportunities to collaborate on projects
• Access to Cebu-wide and cross-university/cross-organization events
• A space to share ideas, build skills, and make an impact
Yes — but only for bigger events where active participation is key. Some of these certificates may also come in the form of badges, which will grant you certain privileges (mechanics are yet to be finalized!)
Not directly. But our network includes alumni and members already in the industry, making it easier for you to connect with people who can open doors — if you take the initiative.
Yes, but it depends on your initiative. The community gives you study groups, peers, and resources. The rest is how much you're willing to engage and practice.
DataCamp is an online learning platform where you can sharpen your skills in data science, machine learning, and Python. For GDGoC USC, access to DataCamp is exclusive to members — but unlike last year, it's not just a sign-up-and-get type of deal. This year, you'll have to earn it by being an active part of our community. We'll be announcing the exact mechanics soon, but think of it as a reward for showing up, learning, and growing with us.
